Sometimes, I loveeeeee my job so much, I can’t believe I get to do this AND get paid! Tonight, my boss & I went to an auction (as research for our next event) and it was called a “loonie-toonie” auction which basically means your bids are only $1 or $2/bid.
There were approx 150-175 baskets total. Some are worth $50, some are worth $100+ and they are broken down into categories (for eg. Wine Lovers, Pamper yourself, etc.,) and you big on the categories. You can big as much or as little as you want but each bid is $1 or $2. Then the numbers are called and you run up as quick as you can to get the best item on the table if you win, it was sooooo much fun!!
I ended up spending $40 (but it’s for a great cause so I don’t mind too much - Women’s Shelters) and I won a GIANT stuffed toys/children’s basket. I would have obviously much prefered the spa packages and/or restaurant gift certificates but it’s still great b/c so many of my friends are having babies so yay for gifts! My boss won a basket with a bottle of red, a coach wristlet, a scarf & chocolate - now THAT was something I really wanted.
My organization is thinking of running an event like this and I would have to coordinate basically the entire thing - quite the challenge but I think it will be TONS of fun and the end result will be great! I’m hoping to make tickets pretty cheap (it was $30 to attend this event and it included dinner, desert, tea & coffee) and get tons of great prizes! It’s a great ‘Ladies Night Out’ idea ;)
Despite how excited I am to plan this event for April 2012, I also have to remember and dread that I also have to plan our annual Walkathon in May and annual Golf Tournament in June. And since I’m the only fundraiser/event planner in the agency, it’s going to be a fucking crazy 2012.
